Interaural correlation sensitivity.
Sensitivity to differences in interaural correlation was measured for 1.3-ERB-wide bands of noise using a 2IFC task at six frequencies: 250, 500, 750, 1000, 1250, and 1500 Hz. The sensitivity index, d', was measured for discriminations between a number of fixed pairs of correlation values. Cumulative d' functions were derived for each frequency and condition. The d' for discriminating any two v...
متن کاملLateralization of sine tones-interaural time vs phase (L).
Listeners estimated the lateral positions of 50 sine tones with interaural phase differences ranging from -150 degrees to +150 degrees and with different frequencies, all in the range where signal fine structure supports lateralization. The estimates indicated that listeners lateralize sine tones on the basis of interaural time differences and not interaural phase differences.
متن کاملLateralization of Interaural Level Differences in Multi-Channel Electrical Stimulation
Lateralization of Interaural Level Differences in Multi-Channel Electrical Stimulation Olga Stakhovskaya, Tanvi Thakkar, Matthew Goupell University of Maryland College Park Background Improved sound localization is one of the benefits associated with use of bilateral cochlear implants (CIs). Modern speech processors cannot reliably encode all of the localization cues available to normal-hearing...
متن کاملRepresentation of a Break in Interaural Correlation
20 The auditory peripheral system filters broadband sounds into narrowband waves, and 21 decomposes narrowband waves into quickly-varying temporal fine structures (TFSs) and 22 slowly-varying envelopes. When a noise is presented binaurally (with the interaural 23 correlation being 1), human listeners can detect a transient break in interaural correlation 24 (BIC), which does not alter monaural ...
متن کاملSimilar Impacts of the Interaural Delay and Interaural Correlation on Binaural Gap Detection
The subjective representation of the sounds delivered to the two ears of a human listener is closely associated with the interaural delay and correlation of these two-ear sounds. When the two-ear sounds, e.g., arbitrary noises, arrive simultaneously, the single auditory image of the binaurally identical noises becomes increasingly diffuse, and eventually separates into two auditory images as th...
